IndyVideo and Paper Tiger TV went out to ask some serious and some funny questions at the 2009 Left Forum. Here is an example of what the people there thought about superheroes.

Paper Tiger has been creating fun, funky, hard-hitting, investigative, compelling and truly alternative media for 25 years! The programs produced at PTTV have inspired media-savvy community productions and activism around the world. Our archive includes shows that provide critical analysis of media, educate about the communications industry and highlight issues that are absent from mainstream information sources. Through the distribution of our short documentary programs, media literacy/video production workshops, community screenings and grassroots advocacy, PTTV works to expose and challenge the corporate control of media. Because of the bias and misrepresentation of issues in mainstream media it is critical to include diverse perspectives in the process of making media. PTTV strives to increase awareness of how media can be used to affect social change. A public that can strategically and creatively use the media is necessary for a more equitable and healthy democracy.

Super Heroes have the power of "flight over" and "transcendence beyond" and "presto chango." With our current cultural addiction to gradualism it is very good for us to meditate on what a new change agent would be. The humorless Swedish guy in the tape seems like the deadly Left, ready to condemn and unwilling to laugh. Music and laughter is the way to open up to change, and all the super-heroes have that, from the professional wrestlers to the pentecostal preachers. Notions of fantastic powers become play. A cape is the beginning of flying.
