An interview with Robert Galinsky, founder of the New York Reality TV School, reveals how actors get trained how to act real and we try to make sense of all of those "Addicted to Beauty" posters through chats with random subway passengers. Poet and activist Tuki Kupferberg reflects on the publication Sports Illustrated. He discusses the sense of generating a "contained universe" separate from conventional reality in which idealization of the human form, the sadomasochism of competition and games in a class society are paradigms for war. Kupferberg goes on to point out the contradictory proliferation of alcohol related advertising within it's pages with it's obvious debilitating effect on motor skills and the central nervous system. A must see for all sports fans.

Paper Tiger Reads: 21st Century Working Woman

A feminist comedy show examining the representation of working women in mainstream media and the evolution of women's place in the workforce over the past 50 years with a special focus on contemporary women's issues.
Structured as a local news program featuring two female anchors (JC Wyatt and Tess McGill, formerly of Working Girl fame) this show uses slapstick comedy, man-on-the-street interviews, live music, kitschy camera techniques, big hair-dos and plenty of cribbed footage to examine a myriad of issues related to the contemporary working woman. Topics covered include the economic crisis of 2008, the current state of women in the workforce, a profiles Non-Traditional Employment for Women, a New York based non-profit that helps women enter the construction and building trades, and a creative critique of mainstream media representations of women working.
The live show also features special guest performer, the inimitable, glitter punk, accordion toting Mira Stroika singing her original song "Norman Rockwell," as well as a traditional Russian folk song and a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel."

On June 15, 2010 protesters gathered outside of the Department of Environmental Conservation regional office in Long Island City and other locations state-wide to raise awareness about the dangers of hydro-fracking and to express support for the Englebright-Addabbo bill, which calls for a moratorium on permits for hydro-fracking until the federal Environmental Protection Agency completes extensive research into accidents and health hazards around the country linked to hydro-fracking. ;

Hunger Strike for the DREAM Act

Introduced nearly a decade ago, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) would offer a 6 year path to legalization for undocumented youth who came to this country before their 16th birthday and have since graduated from high school and are enrolled in college or in the military for a minimum of two years.

Living off water and salt, young strikers completed a 12 day hunger strike in front of Sen. Schumer's office in Manhattan. This was just one of the many direct actions taking place; students around the country have escalated their protests, risking arrests and deportation.

Paper Tiger introduces you to New Yorkers who have found ways to live more sustainably through DIY environmentalism. The creative and unique projects of these city dwellers show how living in urban settings allows rather than hinders their ability to live a green lifestyle. This show features segments on worm composting as an alternative to contributing to landfill waste, reusable bags for green markets, food foraging walks with Wildman Steve Brill, and the monthly Really, Really Free markets in Manhattan hosted by the In Our Hearts Collective. As an extra bonus, there is also an archival piece about the thriving yet threatened Lower East Side community gardens, documenting the residents struggle to save their gardens from the wrath of Mayor Giulianis gentrifying bulldozers. The show also includes a studio conversation between community members discussing how environmentalism, through resourcefulness and perseverance, can become a part of everyone's urban routine.
